Activist art stresses the political content of appropriated forms which then becomes fuel for cultural innovation. But what if the opposite were true? If activist arts potential lay in its appropriation of political rhetoric to serve a artistic goal? Arte siempre no funciona en el espacio de la political. Art activism falls short of political efficacy. This ineffectual aspect is given normative weight. Uselessness is bad. But what if the greatest possibility of art is to accept its own failure? Activist art’s productive uselessness is its greatest asset.
