Fuga+Löfström
(Irene Fuga and Emma Löfström)
Irene Fuga (1983 Venice, Italy)
Since graduating from the Royal College of Art, London (2009), Emma Löfström has been working as an artist and image maker based between London and Stockholm. Recent exhibitions include Skenvärldar, Galleri S, Östersund, Ministry of Love, Yinka Shonibare MBE’s Guest Projects, London, Graphic Bird Walk, Space Gallery, London and Allmänt snö, Wetterling Gallery, Stockholm. Parallel to her artistic practice Löfström has been commissioned to create the artwork for the set-design for several theatre productions in Sweden and Denmark, including The Royal Dramatic Theatre of Sweden and Den Jyske Opera, Arhus, Denmark. In her upcoming project for Lugar a Dudas she would like to reconsider the relationship between natural and human history. Following the ‘Ministry of Love’ exhibition in collaboration with Irene Fuga at Guest Projects in London, she would like to further explore how technology is altering our environment and vision of the world.
Artist living and working in London.
Through drawing and installation pieces, Irene Fuga creates visual metaphors of human behaviors in reaction to the limits of technology and Internet communication. Her fictional world, populated by cold-blooded creatures attempting to reach a physical connection and yet being detached, re-evaluates the elements of magic that are denied in the virtual realm and question issues of hybridization. Exhibitions have included Ministry of Love - Yinka Shonibare MBE’s Guest Projects, London 2013; Ash Hush Hash - Havelock13, London 2012; Made In Filandia, Arezzo Italy 2011; LISTE 09 - The Young Art Fair, Basel 2009; and 4.Berliner Kunstsalon, Berlin 2007. She is currently working on a new body of work - Anachronistic Debris - that includes drawings and installation pieces where she questions notions of time and hybridization. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2009 where she met Swedish artist Emma Löfström, she has been working with her collaboratively on an ongoing project Fuga+Lofstrom. They recently won the open call Gabinete at FLORA ars+natura (Bogotá) and their project ‘Cabinet of Unnatural History’ will be exhibited in September2014. She also works as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Brighton, London and Kingston University London.

About Fuga+Löfström collective:
Following their first Solo exhibition (‘Ministry of Love’ 2013) at Yinka Shonibare MBE - Guest Projects in London, Fuga+Löfström decided to take their collaboration forward during this residency at Lugar a Dudas where they will be exploring and questioning the drawing medium, Löfström through collage and Fuga through drawing and installation. In their upcoming project for FLORA ars+natura - ‘Cabinet of Unnatural History’ - Löfström’s collages of awkward natural elements will be in dialogue with Fuga’s assemblages of found objects and clay sculptures, presenting an assortment of life forms and species from an imagined future.
